WHY CAMBODIA MATTERS TO ME
Asia has been part of my life from a very young age. I travelled through the region with my parents, and as a baby I also spent time in Cambodia. I was too young to remember most of it clearly, yet something about Cambodia seems to have stayed with me. It left a feeling in my heart that never fully disappeared—a quiet sense that one day I would return.
As I grew older, I built friendships and connections with people from many different countries, including Cambodia. Some of those friendships have lasted for years, and my network of Cambodian contacts continues to grow. Through those relationships, Cambodia became more than a distant childhood connection. It became a country I felt increasingly close to.
Today, that connection feels like a call back to Cambodia. Cambodia Up Close grew from that feeling: a wish to return, rediscover the country as an adult, strengthen the connections I already have, and build something meaningful together with Cambodian people.
In a way, returning to Cambodia feels less like travelling somewhere new and more like finding my way home.
I do not want to present Cambodia only through famous landmarks, perfect holiday images or stories told from a distance.
I want people to discover Cambodia through the people who live there, work there, create there and build their lives there.
Behind every restaurant, shop, local product, service and special place is a person, a family, a dream and a story worth hearing.
Cambodia's tourism leadership has called on international partners and people in other countries to help present Cambodia to a wider global audience and to support the growth of tourism.
That message connects directly with what I hope to contribute through Cambodia Up Close.
My role is not to speak over Cambodian people or decide how Cambodia should be presented.
My role is to listen, to work together with Cambodian people and to help create a platform where local businesses, communities and creators can present themselves in their own words.
Cambodia is not simply a business opportunity to me.
It is a country that became part of me when I was young.
It stayed in my heart.
It continued to call me back.
Through Cambodia Up Close, I want to help local businesses become easier to discover, help genuine Cambodian stories reach international visitors and help more people experience the warmth, creativity and character of Cambodia.
This project is my way of returning with a purpose.
Not only to visit Cambodia, but to become part of something positive.
Not only to show places, but to introduce the people behind them.
Not only to promote tourism, but to help create meaningful connections between Cambodia and the rest of the world.
Cambodia has stayed with me for many years.
Cambodia Up Close is my way of giving something back.
Discover Cambodia through the people who make it special.
